Antique Victorian Cornelius & Co. Gilt Mantel Lusters, Crystal Girandoles For Sale

This exquisite Victorian figural candelabra set in antique gilt is a pair of large, intricate gold candlestick holders from the mid-to-late 1800\'s. Made of metal with all the original crystal prisms, it exudes decadent style from the era of 1840-1890, most likely around 1850. They feature a marble base, glass crystals, and a multi-part design, adding a touch of antique elegance and classic glamour to any room.
This pair of girandoles represents Cornelius & Company\'s \"Paul and Virginia\" model, manufactured during the mid-19th century (circa 1850s.) The cast brass figures depict the titular characters from Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre\'s famous 1788 French novel, Paul et Virginie.
The top ring (bobeche) is ornate-- openwork circular rings holding the crystal prisms feature a distinct lovebird/dove and floral motif, which is a highly classic signature element utilized by major mid-19th-century American makers like Cornelius & Co. andHenry N. Hooper & Co.
Originally, these two single-candle models would have served as the side garnitures flanking a larger, three-armed central candelabra to create a complete three-piece mantel set.
Of note: these are unsigned, however, many early Cornelius & Co. goods were unsigned, and the vast majority of these \"Paul and Virginia\" sets left the foundries entirely unsigned.
