Wonderful antique Victorian scrapbook album containing 36 decorated pages filled with an extensive assortment of original period paper ephemera. The collection includes colorful advertising trade cards, chromolithographs, postcards, greeting and religious cards, calling cards, embossed pieces, die-cut scraps and other decorative images.
Subjects include flowers, children, animals, landscapes, holiday scenes, sentimental images and advertising. Identifiable American advertisers include Montgomery Ward & Co., Pacific Diamond Yeast, Dr. Miles, Arbuckle Bros. and others. The album also contains scenic and international postcards.
The decorative cover is marked “ALBUM” and features illustrated ships, flowers and landscapes with an applied portrait of a young girl. Finished with blue boards and a red cloth spine.
Likely assembled during the late Victorian to early Edwardian period. The exact date and maker are unknown.
Antique condition with expected age-related wear throughout, including toning, discoloration, stains, tears, creases, brittle and chipped page edges, binding wear and some loose or partially separated pages. Individual cards and scraps may also show wear or damage. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
