Antique military prismatic sighting compass, believed to date from the World War I era, circa 1910s.
This is a substantial early field-navigation instrument with a black metal body, brass-tone fittings, folding sighting cover with wire, rotating degree scale, prism sight, and large suspension ring.
The compass is accompanied by a vintage fitted black carrying case, which makes the set especially attractive for display and collecting.
The overall construction is consistent with early 20th-century military / engineer / officer prismatic compasses used during the WWI period.
Important:
The exact maker, country of manufacture, and production year have not been confirmed, so this item is being described conservatively as WWI-era / circa 1910s rather than attributed to a specific manufacturer.
The compass shows significant age-related wear, patina, oxidation, finish loss, scratches, discoloration, and residue consistent with an antique field instrument.
