TITLE
Antique West African Brass Figural Chain & Hand-Hammered Copper Hanging Bowl
⸻
DESCRIPTION
Antique hand-hammered copper hanging bowl suspended from a cast brass anthropomorphic figural chain. Likely West African (Akan / Ashanti tradition), early 20th century or earlier, based on materials, construction, and casting style.
The copper bowl shows visible hand hammering, a rolled rim, and deep natural patina. The brass chain features individually cast human figures with irregular form and visible casting seams, consistent with traditional African brass work. No maker’s marks observed, which is typical for the region and period.
Condition Notes:
Interior shows areas of historic tinning and natural alloy variation, visible as lighter silvery-gray patches. These are not repairs and are consistent with age and traditional hand construction. Surface wear, patina, and minor irregularities are appropriate for an antique piece. Structurally solid with no cracks or modern repairs observed.
A striking sculptural and decorative object with strong presence and authentic age.
