Antique Yavapai Polychrome Coiled Pictorial Basket Bowl circa 1920/30s
Yavapai are part of the Yavapai–Apache Nation.
This unique basket, with the image of an eagle on two sides along with theword "EAGLE" is in Excellent condition. Tightly woven with no absolutely n o structural damage, it measures 7 3/4 inches in diameter, 3 3/4 inches tall, and has an approx. 3 1/2 inchbase. It has minor fading.
Often associated with Western Apache baskets, Yavapai baskets are knownfor stricter, more balanced symmetry. The bold block lettering of EAGLEadds to the rarity of this basket and its folk art appeal.
Note--though part of the same tribal group, members of the Yavapai and Apache peopleshare two culturally distinct backgrounds and speak two distinct Indigenous languages.
