A relatively small effigy fashioned from a section of steatite, the surfaces ground and polished by hand into a zoomorphic representation of a whale. Lovely and extremely rare especially one that is not broken and repaired. An amazing piece of Chumash history, California History, and American History. The Chumash were integral in the history of Southern California and were noted as some of the earliest peoples of the Americas as indicated by the Arlington springs man discovery in 1959.
