Traditional work of art mid 20th century, circa 1960-1970, from the aboriginal peoples of Tiwi island. These figures known as Bima, are placed around gravesides of important ancestors. Male ancestor figure, painted with natural earth tone pigment. Human hair attached a top head. Chip on backside of head near hairline, but easy to restore.Sculpture was evaluated and reaearched by VMS expert.
