Bow series of mythological gods for the four elements. This is Ceres, Goddess of Earth. She holds a cornucopia filled with grapes and flowers. The lion at her feet represents the kingdom of animals.
Early piece of Bow porcelain 1755-58. Unmarked, but she does have a square hole for a candle holder. She also has a sticker from the Weatherly Collection. Definitely 1700s English soft paste porcelain, though they were using bone in their recipe.
Only 7 1/2 inches high. Very heavy soft paste porcelain 1 lb. 15 oz.
Condition: This is what I see.
- The usual chips on flower petals.
- The dark color on her cape has been repainted. Some has flaked off in the back.
- Her left arm has been broken.
- She had a scuff on her chin, and I touched it with enamel so it wouldn't look ugly.
