Britain was, of course, still feeling the economic effects of the War, including rationing, but this presents an example of how they put their best foot forward for tourists and business travelers. The touring maps of a husband-wife team of American physicists visiting in the autumn of 1956, and traveling through England and Wales. Larry and Grace Spruch were both noted physicists. Larry Spruch was a prominent theoretical physicist at New York University, and Grace was a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers University, Newark where she was a member of the faculty for 47 years. They toured England and Europe in 1956/57, traveling to England on the ocean liner United States. Paper covers. 5”x8.5”, 27 double-sided maps (some double-page).
