This means there is a layer of Sterling Silver over a base metal like brass. Take a close look at the engraving--its beautiful. Broken Horn produced beautiful buckles during this era.
Buckle is about 3x4 inches and should fit 1 1/4 inch belt without roughing up its sides.
I suppose there are some dinks, but not noticeable to me. I didn't shine it in case you like the old patina.I'm retired , downsiing, too old to chance falling off a horse, so I hope you collect buckles and would like this one.
