William Henry Young Hackett (1800–1878) was a distinguished lawyer and public servant in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Born on September 24, 1800, in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, he was the son of Allen Hackett and Mary \"Polly\" Young. He pursued education at Gilmanton Academy and, by 1820, had relocated to Portsmouth, where he served as a teacher and principal at Portsmouth High School.

Hackett transitioned from education to law, establishing a prominent legal practice in Portsmouth. His leadership extended to the financial sector; in 1827, he became a director of the Piscataqua Bank and later played a pivotal role in organizing the Piscataqua Savings Bank, serving as its first president from its opening in 1878 until his death.

Politically, Hackett was active in the Democratic Party and held various public offices, including multiple terms in the New Hampshire Legislature. He was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Hackett married Olive Pickering on December 21, 1826, and they had several children, including Frank Warren Hackett, who later authored a memoir detailing his father\'s life and contributions.
