The Battle of Santiago Bay, fought July 3, 1898 between the US Fleet and Spanish Royal Fleet at Santiago Bay Cuba resulted in the sinking of the Spanish fleet, and insured the Independence of Cuba from Spain. The American Victory followed the May 1 American Victory at the Battle of Manila Bay, which ensured the Independence of the Philippine Islands from Spain.
