Ca. 1900 Edwardian Era EAPG Kerosene Lamp Dogtooth No. 09874: $120.00
This antique Edwardian Era EAPG kerosene lamp is an authentic piece produced circa 1900, manufactured by the U.S. Glass Company and is classified as Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG). It features the \"Dogtooth\" pattern which gets its name from the distinct pointed zigzag row encircling the middle section of the font reservoir. This sits above a wide, vertically ribbed pedestal column and a flared dimpled base. Its Production Model Number was 09874. In addition to the beautifully-designed base with circles and teardrops, the lamp has a time-authentic burner which holds the 1\" flat wick. The collar of the burner is imprinted with \"NO. 2 QUEEN ANNE NO. 2\". It also has a period-correct thumbwheel that is imprinted with US MADE, which narrows the production timeline to the years 1895-1905. Please note: any attempts to turn the thumbwheel were not successful...I did not wish to force it and break it!) Additionally, the metal collar around the neck of the font reservoir has never been attached with screws and it is a bit loose. This indicates that the collar was most likely originally attached with Plaster of Paris, which has disintegrated in the 126+ years of its existence and further validates the authentication of the date of manufacturing. Lastly, upon close examination, 3 or 4 \"seed\" bubbles are visible in the glass...again pointing to production circa 1900. Reproductions do NOT have bubbles! In certain light, the glass appears to have a very faint lavender tint to it, which is highly prized by collectors who call it the \"Sun-Colored Amethyst\" glass. This tint also strongly authenticates that this lamp base was manufactured between 1880 and 1915. There are NO chips or cracks on this lamp. It appears that the chimney of this lamp is not original to the piece, but is a mid-century replacement that features a faded or partial white floral and leaf \"Diana\"-style pattern spaced evenly around the chimney three times. This lovely antique oil lamp stands at 19.75 inches tall and would make a stunning addition to any collection of antique lighting pieces.
