Back when there really were very few good places to eat on the Upper West Side, there was Café Luxembourg. A well-edited (wild-mushroom ravioli with mascarpone, pan-roasted cumin-crusted duck) and reasonably priced menu, an unflappable staff, and seriously flattering lighting still make it a worthwhile detour from anywhere in town.
