Up for sale today is this Truckers Let \'er Drift warning sign. Made to the exact standards used by California on its highways.
The original of this sign was found along Interstate 80, in the Sierra Nevada mountains, near Kingvale. The sign\'s unique message was devised by the California Department of Highways after engineers rode along with truckers through the area. The result was signage written in genuine 1960s-1970s trucker jargon, advising how to safely manage the descent from the mountains without the brakes overheating.
An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Perhaps because changes in trucker-speak made it no longer as understandable to later generations of truckers, or simply because the four-wheel drivers found it utterly mystifying, the signs were eventually replaced with new ones using more standard verbiage. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying an arm and a leg on the collector\'s market.
The sign is 18 by 8 inches, and weighs 3 lb. 11 oz.
