Carole Landis : Having Wonderful Crime : RKO Hollywood : Pinup Photo 1945 For Sale

This striking black-and-white Hollywood pin-up photograph features beautiful actress Carole Landis (1919–1948), posing provocatively atop a wooden railing in a stylish blouse, striped skirt, and high-heeled shoes, with one shapely leg dramatically extended. The photograph is associated with the 1945 RKO mystery-comedy Having Wonderful Crime, directed by A. Edward Sutherland, in which Landis starred alongside Pat O'Brien and George Murphy. Born in Wisconsin, Landis rose to Hollywood prominence with One Million B.C. (1940) and subsequently appeared in such films as Topper Returns (1941), I Wake Up Screaming (1941), and Moon Over Miami (1941). An enormously popular World War II pin-up, she devoted considerable time to entertaining American servicemen overseas, later recounting her wartime experiences in Four Jills in a Jeep, which became a 1944 motion picture. Despite her professional accomplishments, Landis experienced several unsuccessful marriages and a turbulent personal life, which ended tragically with her death in 1948 at just 29 years of age. This appealing small-format photograph, measuring approximately 3¼ × 4½ inches, bears the number 1136 in the lower-left corner, possibly a studio photographic reference number, and captures the glamour of one of Hollywood's memorable wartime pin-up stars. This vintage photo is in Good vintage condition. The photograph has attractive contrast and generally sharp detail, and has minor wear along the edges and corners. The reverse isblank (see scans).
