Crusader Period Crossbow Bolt Head c.1100-1300AD

Object type: Crossbow bolt head
Culture: Crusader / Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem
Date: c.1100-1300 AD
Material: Iron (heavily mineralized)
Length: approx 45 mm
Findspot: Jerusalem region

Description:
A well-preserved medieval military projectile point from the Crusader presence in the Levant, forged in iron and retaining its original triangular-tapered form with reinforced shoulders for maximum penetration. These bolt heads were used by foot soldiers and mounted knights alike throughout the Kingdom of Jerusalem and Outremer garrisons, forming a core component of Crusader battlefield equipment. This form is typical of 12th–13th century Crusader ammunition recovered from fortified sites across Palestine.

Authentication:
Surface mineralization, soil accretion, encrustation layers and iron oxidation are consistent with secure medieval Levantine archaeological finds. No modern tooling.

Tower of London Armouries, Crusader bolts group, inv. III.1682
