This colorful linen-era postcard depicts a lively scene on Chautauqua Lake, New York, captioned \'Passing and Repassing All the Live Long Day.\' The image shows two double-deck sidewheel steamboats cruising the lake in the background, while foreground rowboats carry multiple passengers enjoying the calm waters. A dense tree line fills the horizon beneath a bright blue sky. The hand-colored print captures the leisurely resort atmosphere for which Chautauqua Lake was famous in the early 20th century. Published by American Art Colored of Chicago (catalog number 92924), this is a classic linen-era card with the characteristic textured paper stock and vivid color palette of the 1930sā1940s. The divided back format is standard for the period. What makes this postcard especially collectible is its remarkable postal history. It was mailed on December 31, 1942 ā the last day of operation for the Parco, Wyoming post office ā and received a second postmark dated January 1, 1943 in Sinclair, Wyoming, the renamed successor post office. The back bears a typed annotation documenting this transition and is signed by Postmaster Cleo H. Massey. A postage due notation of 1/2 cent is also present, along with a 1-cent stamp on the back. This last-day/first-day cover combination makes the card historically significant beyond the image itself. Condition is Very Good. There is light corner wear and the front-side postmark and stamp partially overlap the image, which is typical of the postal use. The linen surface shows minor age toning but no tears, heavy creasing, or writing that detracts from the image. A fine example for collectors of New York topographicals, lake scenes, steamboat subjects, or Wyoming postal history.
