Chinese Distressed White Porcelain Blue Warrior Horse GraphicHolder Vase GB688DESCRIPTION
This vintage style Chinese blue and white porcelain brush pot (Bitong) showcases the refined artistry of the Republic Period. The cylindrical vessel is elegantly decorated with a continuous scene featuring warrior riding horse theme. The cobalt blue pigment is applied with varying intensity, creating a painterly depth that mimics traditional ink wash on paper. A calligraphic inscription on the reverse side provides historical context, referencing the Republic of China (Minguo) era, specifically the 8th year (1919), alongside a seasonal attribution and artist's seal.
The underside bears a clear six-character mark reading "Jiangxi Ciye Gongsi" (Jiangxi Porcelain Company), a prestigious kiln known for producing high-quality wares that bridge the gap between Imperial tradition and early 20th-century innovation. The porcelain features a soft, creamy glaze with characteristic age-related iron spots and a slightly unglazed foot rim, characteristic of authentic period pieces. This small brush pot is not only a functional scholar’s object but a sophisticated example of early modern Chinese ceramic design, perfect for adding a touch of Zen-inspired elegance to a study or collection.
