A set of two related items from the estate of a Colonel in the 82nd Airborne Division who in WWII parachuted into North Africa, Normandy and the Netherlands; won the Silver Star for personally taking out machine gun nests in Belgium; and went on to lead troops in Korea:
1) The first is an official US Army Signal Corps photo of him during the Korean War carrying a M1911 pistol. It is 8" x 10" and in black and white. He is talking to a General and a Major and there is a humorous typed caption about "fighting weight."2) The second is a memo on shooting the M1911 better, titled "HOLD IT TIGHT" and distributed over his signature. No date but published in Cherbourg, France, so probably during the post-WWII occupation.The memo is three pages and stapled. The man was a shooter -- he got his mandatory retirement postponed to coach an Army shooting team at competition.
Good condition as shown. The photo is an original Type 1 on Kodak paper. The corners are bumped and there is mild toning from age to the back. The memo is toned from age.
