The History Behind the Wings:
This model honors the legendary crew of 1st Lt. Ralph Jackson, assigned to the
15th Air Force, 512th Bomb Squadron.
On December 28, 1943, during a critical mission targeting the railroad marshalling yards in Vicenza, Italy, this aircraft flew on the vulnerable leading right wing of the formation.
Before reaching the target, the squadron was ambushed by a massive force of over 70 Axis fighters. “Ready, Willing and Able” sustained severe combat damage and ultimately crashed near Lago di Fimon in Arcugnano, Italy, where a permanent memorial stands today honoring the immense bravery and sacrifice of its ten-man crew.
