David Winter Shakespeare\'s Birthplace (Full Size) RARE:
$300.00

    • Historical & Collection Background
      • An Early Classic: Introduced into The Main Collection in 1982, this piece was officially retired just two years later in 1984. Its short two-year production run makes it significantly harder to track down than the mass-produced pieces from the late 1980s and 1990s.
      • The \"Large\" Footprint: This particular design is shaped like a wide, prominent \"L-shape\", beautifully capturing the interconnected rooms, timber framework, and blooming flower vines characteristic of the historical landmark.
      • The Hidden Trademark: Like your previous piece, this was hand-sculpted in clay by David Winter before being cast in refined gypsum plaster and hand-painted in England by John Hine Studios. Look closely into the crevices—early David Winter miniatures are famous for having a tiny mouse hidden somewhere in the sculpture
      • The Felt Color ShiftThe transition from green felt to brown felt is one of the most reliable visual markers for dating very early David Winter miniatures.
        • Brown Felt (Shakespeare\'s Birthplace, 1982):
        • By 1982, as John Hine Studios expanded production and formalized their distribution, they transitioned permanently to the standard dark brown felt backing. Brown felt remained the default signature base protection for the majority of the Main Collection throughout the rest of the 1980s and Evolutions

        • The \"Shakespeare\'s Birthplace\" Base (Single Unified Label):
          • By 1982, the labeling system became streamlined. Rather than using multiple separate square stickers, the studio moved to a single round, die-cut white label printed with a circular perimeter script.
          • The text shifted to explicitly copyright the year of sculpting (\"© David Winter 1982\"), and the guild credit wording was integrated into the outer edge pattern (\"A member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen - Made and Hand painted in England\". This style proves that your cottage is from the highly desirable initial production eras, rather than the later mass-market re-issues of the 1990s.
