Historical & Collection Background
- An Early Milestone: Released in 1980 and retired just a year later in 1981, this piece is highly coveted as one of David Winter’s earliest commercial releases.
- The Origin Story: During this timeframe, David Winter did the sculpting while his partner, John Hine, managed marketing. The very earliest versions of these 1980 figurines were packed and finished in a small garden coal shed behind Winter’s parents\' home before production expanded to proper workshops.
- Collection Tier: It belongs to The Main Collection.
Design & Architectural Elements
- Visual Styling: The design features a classic old-world British public house/inn with sweeping stone steps wrapped around the hillside base, multi-layered slate-style roofing, and two distinct stone chimneys.
- Finishing: The small round sticker on your item\'s felt base reads \"J. Mayes\", which is the signature of the specific studio artisan who hand-painted your individual piece in England.
- Collector Value InsightsBecause this piece was retired so quickly (1981) compared to later mass-produced cottages, it is significantly scarcer than most David Winter pieces found on the market.
  - Original Pricing: It originally retailed for just $13.20 when issued in 1980.
  - Condition Notes:Looking closely at your images, the intricate corner stonework, roof trim, and delicate chimney caps appear intact.
