Debra Steidel Signed Studio Art Pottery Coral Ocean Sculpture Vase 11" RARE For Sale

Debra Steidel – Signed Sculptural Ocean-Inspired Art Pottery Vase – 11 InchesAn extraordinary example of contemporary American studio pottery by ceramic artist Debra Steidel. This substantial, approximately 11-inch-tall sculptural vessel is a remarkable marriage of ceramic craftsmanship, organic design, and the natural beauty of the underwater world.Far more than a conventional vase, this piece presents as a freestanding work of art, with dramatic movement, intricate surface decoration, and an exceptionally complex silhouette.THE ARTWORKThe exterior features a rich, dark bronze-brown finish with subtle metallic highlights, providing a striking contrast to the luminous blue-green glazed interior. The surface is covered in an elaborate underwater landscape of raised and impressed marine imagery. Coral formations, barnacle-like clusters, delicate seashells, starfish, and flowing aquatic vegetation create an extraordinary sense of depth and texture. The detailing extends across the vessel, rewarding examination from virtually every angle.Perhaps its most dramatic feature is the irregular, deeply sculpted opening. The rim rises and falls in sweeping, organic curves, folding outward and inward like ocean waves, sea fans, or natural coral formations.Strategically incorporated openings allow glimpses of the contrasting interior glaze, adding another dimension to the sculpture. The interior is finished in a beautiful pale aqua, seafoam green, and soft blue glaze with flowing tonal variations reminiscent of light filtering through water. The combination of the richly textured exterior and the smooth, luminous interior creates an especially compelling visual contrast.THE ARTISTDebra Steidel is an American ceramic artist known for her nature-inspired porcelain vessels, intricate surface treatments, and distinctive sculptural forms. Her work draws inspiration from the natural world, including marine environments, organic structures, and the textures and movement found in nature. This vessel exemplifies those artistic interests through its intricate underwater imagery and highly expressive form.SIGNATURE & IDENTIFICATIONThe piece bears the artist's incised signature, Debra Steidel, near the underside. The base also features an impressed starfish-like motif surrounded by additional marine-inspired texturing.Photographs of the signature and underside are included.DETAILS- Artist: Debra Steidel
