An exceptional specimen from a new find in eastern Nevada. Branching vanadinite crystals to over one centimeter are replaced by botryoidal dark red descloizite microcrystals. The Robinson Mining District near Ely, Nevada is a copper mining area that continues to produce from the large open pit Robinson Mine operated by KGHM. A small number of minor zinc, lead, and copper deposits occur in the limestones surrounding the main porphyry deposit at the Robinson Mine and are the source of specimens such as this.
