EDISON CONCERT PHONOGRAPH WITH ACCESSORIES For Sale

Offering the first version of the Edison Type “A” ConcertPhonograph which appeared in 1899, adapted from the Edison Spring MotorPhonograph. It used the three-spring Triton motor, which would later power theEdison Triumph. Serial No. C2777. This includes the original square slottedcrank. Also included is the adapter carriage to play regular size 2-minutecylinder records. This comes with an early Automatic reproducer for playingbrown wax cylinders and an Edison recorder with a good stylus in its originalbox. One of the photos shows a repair patch on the back of the lid which wasdone quite well but not a perfect grain match. This Concert played standard2-minute cylinders and came with a mandrel adapter for playing 5” diametercylinders. The larger cylinder increased volume and was used in auditoriumpresentations. This version can be distinguished by its all-enveloping lid, andby a small drawer built into the front of the case. The early Concert sold for$125 which would be $5,000 in today’s costs which explains its scarcity.Production of the Concert ended in 1912. The only reproduction item is thebrass horn. The second version of the Edison Concert appeared in the New StyleCase of 1901. With a green oak case and banner decal and closely resembled theEdison Triumph of the same year. I tested the reproducer with a 5-inch cylinderthat played quite well.
