EPIC ILLUSTRATED #3, FALL 1980 VERY FINE CONDITION PAUL GULACY COVER For Sale

This week I\'m offering a variety of collectibles, including trading cards as well as comics. In the mid-Seventies, comic art coming out of Europe was rapidly gaining a strong reputation for quality, imagination, and adult content. Names such as Moebius and Druillet were being referenced by advanced comics fans. The publishers of National Lampoon magazine saw an opportunity and reached an agreement with the publishers of France\'s top adult comics magazine, to publish an English Language version. Thus was born Heavy Metal. Meanwhile, Marvel Comics had turned down the opportunity to showcase Metal Hurlant, and they scrambled to provide some competition. In 1980, they offered Epic Illustrated, a large magazine featuring, like their competitor, adult themed comics by some of the best creators available. Epic serialized numerous adaptations of popular fantasy and science fiction material, and showcased the work of many fine artists. The magazine lasted 34 issues, about six years. NOTE: THE MATERIAL IN THIS MAGAZINE IS UNDENIABLY ADULT IN NATURE, WITH FREQUENT NUDITY AND CONSIDERABLE VIOLENCE. Copies of this magazine, especially the early issues, remain a must for any serious comics collector.Here I have Epic Illustrated #3, dated Fall 1980. It features a cover by Paul Gulacy, as well as stories by Gulacy, Jim Starlin, P. Craig Russell and others. It\'s in very fine condition overall, with only a very slight water stain on the edge of the first and last few pages - see scans for condition.
