According to an article published in The Indianapolis News on Nov. 3, 1897, “The North Judson Brewing Co. was incorporated today with a capital stock of $1,200.”
The October 1897 issue of Ice and Refrigeration reads, “The North Judson Brewing Co., North Judson, Ind., has bought a 15-ton Linde refrigerating machine from Fred W. Wolf Co., Chicago.”
According to a post from the Starke County Historical Society, after it was incorporated, the brewery began operations on January 21, 1898. The post notes that lawsuits were filed against the company in 1901, and it was put up for a sheriff’s sale in 1902.
The North Judson Brewing Co. plant was located on the west side of N. McClellan Ave. As of 2026, the site is a wooded area behind St. Peter Lutheran Church & School. It is unknown when the brewery was razed, and more research is needed on this brewery.
U.S. Census data shows that North Judson had 572 residents in 1890 and 868 in 1900.
