Edwards Black Jade
This listing is for a rough slab of Edwards Black Jade from Wyoming. Edwards black jade was first discovered in 1958, and mined for nearly a decade before it was depleted in the 1960's. This jade is considered by many to be the finest black nephrite in the world. It is an exceptionally rare, premium variety of black nephrite jade known for its intense, uniform "ink black" color and lack of mottling. It accepts a brilliant, glass-like vitreous polish on cabochons, bangles, and jewelry pieces. This is a flawless, high quality black nephrite jade slab. There are marks on the slab from the penlight, as the jade is harder than the steel penlight and it left some metal residue on the surface. This will come out easily with some alcohol - I left it to show the hardness. (stainless steel has a MOHS of 5-6 meaning the jade slab is harder than steel) One side has visible saw marks that will come out in the polish - I've shown this in a photo. Very little rind on the slab. There is some green color on the very edge of this one, as shown in the photos. I've also shown several images of a penlight held against the slab in various lighting conditions. It is very black, but a faint green underglow is visible in some, not all spots. This is a thick piece - it slightly tapers from 9.9mm to 10.7mm. This is a fantastic piece.
