Elegant 19th C. Appliqué Quilt. The applique work is superior. All work was by what must be a superior craftsman. Phenomenal quilting in circular patterns and feathered plumes enhanced by extensive grid quilting. The amount of quilting at a tiny 9-10 SPI boggles my mind as a quilter and was stitched in leaf, circular and grids. The applique work is superior and is framed by a small saw-toothed border on all sides.
The quilt is strong and shows modest wear for an early quilt like this. The overall feeling is that it has many years left to be enjoyed by a new owner. The binding must have been replaced in the forties era with a pale green bias type of binding. It doesn't distract from the quilt as a whole. This lovely quilt measures approximately 80 X 80"
