Up for sale is a fascinating piece of WWII-era German architectural history: an authentic, heavy-duty industrial exterior lighting fixture bracket/dampener assembly, complete with a vintage handwritten provenance note.
According to the accompanying handwritten note on vintage Hotel Deutscher Hof (Nürnberg) stationery, this hardware component originally “Came from an outside lighting fixture to the Führerbau, München.”
The Führerbau ("The Führer's Building") was constructed in Munich between 1933 and 1937, famously serving as the site of the Munich Agreement in 1938. This heavy-duty metal assembly was part of the specialized, robust mounting systems designed by architect Paul Ludwig Troost's team to stabilize the building's massive exterior bronze lanterns against heavy wind loads and thermal expansion.
Component Details & Historical Markings:
The assembly consists of three distinct parts (an adjustablechannel block, an H-shaped backing plate, and a spacing plate). The top block features highly clear, crisp stamped/cast manufacturer markings:
• Manufacturer: WEISS & CO. LEIPZIG 01 (A prominent historic German engineering firm)
• Trade Name: WECO DAMPFER ("Weco" being the brand shorthand for Weiss & Co., and "Dampfer" referring to its industrial shock/vibration• dampening function)
• Patent Marking: D.R.P. (Deutsches Reichspatent — the historical imperial patent system utilized in Germany until 1945)
Provenance Note:
Included with the relic is the original handwritten identification slip on official letterhead from the famous Hotel Deutscher Hof in Nuremberg—a highly notable historical location heavily frequented by governmentofficials and diplomats during the 1930s and 1940s.
Condition & Specifications:
• Condition: Excellent, untouched historical battlefield/salvage condition. Features a rich, authentic aged patina, minor oxidation, and historic wear consistent with decades of exterior structural use and subsequent storage. No structural cracks or modifications.
• Material: Cast iron / heavy industrial alloy.
