This is a high quality antique steel edge tool from the earliest days of CE Jennings, and it is comparable to the great old Swan socket chisels of the early 20th-century era, long considered the golden era of steel edge tools & toolmaking technology
— and the comparison of Jennings (&Griffin) to the James Swan Co. is mentioned here because antique Jennings chisels just so happen to mimic the James Swan Co. line of woodworking chisels - and edge tools by both makers have long been offered as the industry standard of quality woodworking tools, articles offered to the commercial market and the general consumer market alike, and apparently without bias.
This example by Jennings is much the same, with a very similar look & feel of a old 1920s era full length James Swan beveled edge socket firmer chisel with its long & heavy socket wall and wide beveled side edges milling details, not to mention the the top-quality tool steel itself, which really holds an edge over time.
The hickory handle is original to the tool, and multiple layers of leather washers make for a most substantial strike cap. This fine old Jennings has been completely refurbished, and done with care & attention to detail; cutter edge is fresh and quite sharp.
Btw: absolutely NO AI was used in ANY part of this listing — I write my own material based on the vast amount of knowledge and expertise that I have accumulated over the past 65 years of my lifetime — besides, from everything I’ve seen to date: AI, and the silly ‘Chat GPT’ features both make wayy too many mistakes for my own personal level of comfort & acceptance, just sayin..
