FRAMED STRANDS OF HAIR BELONGING TO JOHN BROWN For Sale

Two strands of John Brown's hair, preserved in acetate within a tiny gold-tone frame and presented on a handsome 8.5" x 11" color photocopy of provenance originally signed by Charles Hamilton. The strands measures approximately .1875" and are in fine condition. Ex: Lou Mushro, and accompanied by photocopies of letters from Charles Hamilton to Mushro, as well as a photocopy of Hamilton's affidavit, 1986. Also includes a copy of Mushro's bulletin with his signature beneath handwritten information about the original sale of the hair in 2002.

John Brown of Osawatomie (1800-1859) was a staunch abolitionist and radical who believed that acts of violence were required if slavery was to be eradicated from the United States. He led an anti-slavery group in the Bleeding Kansas crisis and later, in October 1859, led a raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry in order to jumpstart a slave rebellion. He was arrested, tried for treason, and hanged on December 2, 1859. Many historians believe John Brown played a major role in the start of the Civil War.
