Offeredfor sale is a fully serviced Dutch Zaandam Zaanse wall clock with an8 day movement. This clock was made in 1972 and has the solid brassweights. In addition to a full service on the movement, the weightswere polished and waxed and the case was cleaned. The clock is 20inches tall and has the Atlas figure holding the world as part of thebell stand. TheLatin phrase above the dial means “To Each His Own” and the clockhas the original cast brass hands. There is a video attached so thatyou can hear the bell strike, it is a very pleasant sounding clock.

WHATMAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE?

The rules of economics are fairly straightforward. Simply put, it isalmost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique andvintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found”clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through themovement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you wouldhave offer on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried throughthe photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring thesewonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provideyou with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be asource of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important tome is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain itsvalue over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value inantique and vintage clocks.

MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS.

Theonly way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble,clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by properhoroligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holesand the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are thenreassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test runfor 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the onlycorrect way to properly recondition a clock movement. You shouldexpect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten yearstrouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 45 years. Iapprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been amember of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors(NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has becomea passion of mine. I go to estate sales, sales, and search placeslike and Craigslist to find clocks that are in need ofrestoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them upfor sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading mypersonal collection. My hope is also to provide you with an heirloomto cherish for years to come.

Bothparties need to be fully engaged in the buying process for atransaction to be a success. Buyers need to understand that theclocks I sell are between 80 and 140 years old. While the movementsare fully serviced, all of my clocks show some scars from thesedecades of use. I try to describe these marks as best I can andmention them in my listing text. I count on the buyer to read theentire sale text and examine the high-resolution pictures closelyto make sure it meets your needs and expectations. I am alwayswilling to make good on any shipping damage through the insuranceprocess but I am no longer willing to offer partial refunds simplybecause the buyer did not read the listing or examine the salephotos.

PAYMENTAND SHIPPING.

Peopledeserve to be treated fairly and to expect that their transactionwill be handled as if the business was being done face to face. Readmy response and you can see that I live by these words. I know thatthe shipping cost seems high but this is an item of substantial valueso a wooden crate will be built to ship the clock in. I also providea set of General Clock Instructions that will answer about 95% of thequestions that may arise during the set-up of the clock. Due to thevibration of shipping, no guarantee can be given but this item iscovered by the Money Back Guarantee program. At noted earlier,the movement, held in with two thumbscrews, will need to be taken outof the case to remove the protective packing and gags. If you areunsure of your ability to do this or don’t have a friend with basicclock knowledge, I would suggest that you pass on this item.
