Frederick Post 1460 Versalog slide rule made by Hemmi Japan with original case – engineering Providence.
A particularly nice example of a classic Frederick Post No. 1460 Versalog, manufactured by Hemmi in Japan and accompanied by its original Post case.
This slide role has an interesting original owner history. I attended the university of Washington from 1966 through 1970 and earned an engineering degree, and I believe I purchased and used this Frederick post 1460 versa log during that period as part of my engineering studies.
The instrument is clearly marked Hemmi Japan and bears the red Post logo and serial number 602664. The original protective case is marked 1460 Versalog Frederick Post company.
The Post 1460 was a highly regarded professional engineering slide rule. Frederick Post had Hemmi manufacture its 1460 Versalog specifically for the American market, and the model became one of the most successful engineering slide rules of its era.
The 1460 Versalog was a sophisticated 10” professional grade duplex slide rule designed for engineering, scientific and mathematical calculations. It’s extensive arrangement of logarithmic, trigonometric, and specialized scales make it a serious precision calculating instrument used by engineers, scientists students, and technical professionals before electronic calculators became common place.
Condition
Very good vintage condition overall. The slide rule remains clean and legible, with the scales and markings exceptionally well preserved. The original cases is included and also is in very good condition.

A piece of engineering history
This isn’t simply an old slide rule, it is an authentic example of the type of precision instrument used by engineering students and practicing engineers during the era immediately proceeding the widespread adoption of electronic calculators.
Original owner Provenance from an engineering student at the University of Washington, 1966 to 1970, it has a wonderful personal history to this instrument.
It is interesting to note that the Smithsonian Museum has a Post 1460 Versalog slide rule as part of the National Museum of American history collection.
