Fulton 8. Vintage ratcheting bit brace - manual drill. Circa 1910-1920.Excellent condition - see photos of actual item. I little cleanup and this will shine! This is a traditional manual woodworking tool used by carpenters to drill holes and drive screws with square-shank bits. Made in USABrand History: Fulton was originally established in 1882 as the Fulton Tool Works in Canal Fulton, Ohio. However, the brand is most famously recognized as an early house brand for Sears, Roebuck & Co., appearing in their mail-order catalogs starting in 1905. It served as Sears\' primary tool line until it was eventually replaced or sidelined by the introduction of the Craftsman brand name in 1927.The \"8\" Stamping: The number \"8\" designates the sweep size of the brace. The sweep represents the diameter of the circle that the center handle makes as you turn it. An 8-inch sweep provides faster drilling speeds, making it ideal for smaller boring bits or driving screws rapidly.Key Features:Crank frame: Steel U-shaped bent shaft that provides leverage and rotational torque.Head (pad): The smooth wooden knob at the top that the user pushes against with their chest or hand while turning.Center handle: A freely rotating wooden grip (often called the swiveling middle handle) used to guide the turning motion.Chuck and ratchet: The mechanism at the business end featuring jaws to clamp onto bits and a ring selector for ratcheting in tight spacesNo packaging or box.Ships next business day from California (Often same day, if ordered early in the day)Product Weight: 1 lb 15 oz Est ship weight: 3 lbs / 16x12x4
