The Boeing 727-200 is the stretched version of the 727-100 model. The 200 series was 20 feet longer that the 100 series. The first 727-200 flew on 27 July 1967. The first delivery was to Northwest Airlines. As the aircraft evolved, a series of higher gross weights and more powerful engines were introduced along with other improvements. These 727-200's were dubbed "Adv" or advanced. The first "Advanced" version was delivered in mid-1972. A total of 935 models of all variants were manufactured.
North Central Airlines was a local service carrier and a scheduled airline in the Midwestern United States. North Central was founded in 1944 as Wisconsin Central Airlines. In 1952 it commenced operations as North Central Airlines. On 01 July 1979, North Central was merged with Southern Airways to become Republic Airlines. In 1986, Republic was merged with Northwest Airlines. Republic had 22 Boeing 727-200's in service when they merged with Northwest Airlines. Many of those continued to provide service under the Northwest livery.
This Republic Boeing 727 with registration N721RC had its first flight on 17 March 1981. It was delivered to Republic on 26 March 1981. It then flew under the Northwest livery after the Republic/Northwest merger in October of 1986. In December of 1999 the aircraft was purchased by Champion Air with new registration N685CA. The aircraft remained with Champion Air untill it was retired and placed into storage.
