Authentic giant ground sloth vertebra, a subfossil from the Pleistocene (Ice Age). It was recovered from a sinkhole on private property in North Florida. Sinkhole burial explains its pale, lightly mineralized look, which is different from the dark river-fossil color.
It is a complete, intact vertebra with the centrum, neural arch, spinous process and both transverse processes all present.

Condition: Natural, unrestored. Light green algae or mineral film on one face of the centrum, small nicks on the process edges, and cancellous (spongy) bone visible on the articular faces.
Giant ground sloths were massive herbivores, up to 13 feet tall, that roamed the Americas until the end of the last Ice Age. This is a substantial display piece for collectors or educators.
