This solid sterling silver pendant was carved and cast expressly for Jerry (and the boys) in 1992 by talented animated jewelry designer in Boulder, Colorado. It has on back an official ©GDM copyright label and STERLING stamp. Hang it in on cord or small diameter chain and enjoy the smiles you get.
This is collectable, wearable artwork and is a subtle statement of joy and inner peace. You will see with delight the details carving shows like the individual 'fingers' strumming the strings.The famous dancing turtles 'idea' was borrowed and adapted from a 1909 drawing by German illustrator and newspaper cartoonist Heinrich Kley who lived from 1863 to 1945.
The iconic dancing terrapin turtles associated with the Grateful Dead first appeared on the cover of their July 27, 1977 studio album, Terrapin Station and the delightful 16-minute musical suite and title track. The famous dancing turtles holding a banjo and a tambourine were on the cover of the album.
Literal and Metaphorical: The cover took the title "Terrapin Station" literally by showing turtles at a station-like setting.Symbolism: Fans view the turtles as symbols of inner peace, higher consciousness, and the easy, graceful journey of life.
