HEADS UP Vol. 1 No. 2 – Feb–Mar 1970 – Pendulum Publishers – Vintage Counterculture Glamour Magazine
Original HEADS UP Vol. 1 No. 2, published by Pendulum Publishers, Inc. of Los Angeles in 1970.This was an early Pendulum title from the height of the late-1960s/early-1970s counterculture publishing era. The editorial describes Heads Up as a “free-thinking, free-wheeling magazine” and presents this second issue as a continuation of the experimental approach established with its debut issue. The magazine runs 72 pages including covers and mixes black-and-white, duotone and color photography with humor, surreal imagery, cartoons and offbeat features. Documented contents include The Heads Up Dartboard Game, An Astrological Give Me Your Foot, and illustrations by Phillip Cambridge.A particularly striking piece of 1970 underground publishing and sexual-revolution-era ephemera, with fantastic psychedelic typography and an unmistakably period cover design.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition for its age with expected handling, edge and surface wear from an original 1970 publication. There is visible wear along the edges and corners, including a small tear/rough area along the lower right edge. The black-and-green cover remains colorful and presents very well.
