This is a compote in Heisey's "Twist" pattern (Stem #1252) in Flamingo Pink. It has a heavy gold grape pattern encrustation along the rim - gorgeous! This piece was produced by A.H. Heisey & Co. sometime between 1928 and 1935. It features the signature twisted or optic spiral elements characteristic of Art Deco-era depression glass, and the etching also carries an Art Deco influence in the grapes and leaves - but still has a feeling of the waning Art Nouveau era with its swirls and graceful details.
Flamingo is Heisey’s trade name for the warm, soft pink popular in 1930s elegant and depression glass. This piece is unmarked, but clearly part of the Twist line.
The 22K gold-encrusted etch pattern itself points to the artistry of Glastonbury-Lotus. Many of Heisey’s pieces were jobber-decorated with 22k gold accents after leaving the factory. Rather than manufacturing the raw glass blanks themselves, Glastonbury-Lotus purchased high-quality crystal blanks from premier glassmaking factories of the depression era—most notably A.H. Heisey & Co. and Consolidated Glass.
The compote is 5 ¾” tall x 7 ½” wide at the rim. No chips or cracks, but does have a manufacturing defect on the bowl area - see photos. Still displays beautifully - a rare and stunning piece of elegant glass!
