INTERNATIONAL INN, WASHINGTON, D.C. opened in 1962, today Washington Plaza Hotel

This listing is for an original vintage International Silver Company silver soldered serving dish 0805 likely from the International Inn restaurant and/or room service. On the back of the dish is the ID manufacture name and wording International Inn, Washington, D.C. It measures 8.25" by 6" at widest points on top rim and it is 1.5" wide. Heavy weighs 14 oz unwrapped so after packaged for shipping will be over a pound.

NOTE - it is not dated which is why I say circa 1962. I don't know what year it changed names to become the Washington Plaza Hotel. Please be sure you are ok with this information.

This is truly a unique find. The new hotel's background on history says, "in 1962, the International Inn opened, quickly becoming one of Washington, DC's most popular and cherished hotels. Architect Morris Lapidus, known for the famed Fountainebleu and Eden Roc hotels in Miami Beach-insisted on designing a resort-like property to exceed the expectations of DC visitors. With its curving corridors, strong graphic elements, and sensational swimming pool, the resulting nine-story edifice on Thomas Circle was the talk of the town."Also found during research, "It was originally painted with light and dark colorsand bands of long balconies. At the center and facing the Circle, thepool area was defined with a highly innovative feature for Washington’s variedclimate: a large, glass dome covering the pool which could retract to the opensky depending on the season. It was an instant landmark, and a hit withhotel patrons, as they could use the pool year round, and have the benefit ofsunning outdoors or swimming on cold winter nights under a moonlit sky.The dome construction was captured by the Washington Post in a photograph thatran in their October 11, 1962 issue."

Condition of this dish as shown in photos. It has the expected age and use wear including dark discoloration in the patina surface and dings in various places from handling. Please view photos to be sure you are ok with all before buying.
