Isabel Jay RPPC Philco 3054B Bassano Edwardian Actress Postcard Concord MA For Sale

Antique Edwardian real photo postcard of English soprano and stage actress Isabel Jay (1879–1927), photographed by the celebrated London society studio Bassano and published by The Philco Publishing Co., Holborn Place, London, W.C., as Philco Series 3054 B.
Isabel Jay was one of the great leading ladies of her era. She sang soprano roles with the D\'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy Theatre and went on to star in hit Edwardian musical comedies, most famously the title role in *Miss Hook of Holland*. This portrait captures the height of Edwardian fashion: an enormous wide-brimmed picture hat crowned with a sweeping ostrich plume, a voluminous pompadour, a high-collared polka-dot bodice, and a luxurious fur stole. The sepia photograph has delicate hand-applied tinting, with soft pink on the cheeks and lips and a touch of green on the brooch at the collar.
The divided back reads \"POST CARD,\" with \"Philco Series\" in the stamp box and the inland-postage communication notice. It carries a charming handwritten message in period ink addressed to Miss Ada Ingham, 502 Main St., Concord Junction, Mass. (today\'s West Concord, Massachusetts). It reads: \"Dear Ada, I think this will suit you up to a T seeing you like glossy ones. Should like to see your album now, I think it will be getting full by now. I remain your loving Cousin (William).\"
It is a lovely glimpse into the Edwardian craze for collecting actress postcards in albums, with a direct Massachusetts connection.
Measures approximately 5 1/2\" x 3 1/2\", standard Edwardian postcard size.
Condition:Good antique condition for a card over 100 years old. The front image is clear and strong with nice tonal depth and intact hand tinting. Light toning to the white borders and light softening and wear at the corners and edges. The reverse shows overall age toning, a few light spots, and a faint stain in the address area. There is no stamp or postmark, so the card was likely sent in an envelope or delivered by hand. No tears or creases observed. As expected with antique paper, light shelf wear, grime or discoloration may be present. Please review the detailed photos carefully for condition.
