Vintage Japanese Ichimatsu Ningyo Doll
This is an authentic vintage Japanese Ichimatsu doll, or Ningyo. It is large and dressed in an adorable pink kimono with a traditional kanako (spots on the back of the fawn). The head/face is finished with gofun and has youthful brown glass eyes. The hands and feet are crafted from the same material, and the nails are painted. The body is one solid piece of hard styrofoam to keep it lightweight. The hair is dense and cut thick. She has a removable wooden peg stand painted black and small decorative accessories tucked into the front of the kimono.
Japanese ningyo traditionally represent children and were made both as toys and decorative objects, often reflecting the craftsmanship and cultural aesthetics of their time. Ichimatsu ningyo, in particular, were traditionally crafted to resemble kabuki actors; however, as they gained popularity, they expanded into decorative display dolls, often displayed annually during Hinamatsuri (Girls\' Day on March 3rd).
