Missouri Classic : Jasperoid Quartz ps. after Barite with Tetrahedrite & Pyrite
This is a significant, Old Stock cabinet specimen representing the specialized "Jasperoid" replacement phase of the legendary Tri-State District. At 9.1 cm, it features a complex architecture of bladed Quartz casts—perfectly preserving the original tabular morphology of Barite. This is a definitive example of the secondary silica pulses that occurred in the Joplin Field, far removed from the more common galena and sphalerite associations.
The specimen is composed of opaque, snowy-white drusy Quartz with a fine, sparkling luster across the primary cast faces. Embedded within and nestled between the quartz blades are sharp, metallic-grey crystals of Tetrahedrite & some pyrite. The integration of these sulfides into the quartz growth provides a superb look at the district's complex mineral paragenesis, where multiple generations of mineralization overlapped.
As is characteristic of these brittle, hollow-cast replacements from a high-impact industrial mining era, this specimen shows minor edge contact and some small chips to the delicate quartz blades. These are noted for transparency but do not detract from the overall display impact or the scientific importance of the piece. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a substantial Joplin pseudomorph at an accessible price point.
