The Railton Special was designed by Reid Railton for John Cobb\'s land speed record runs in 1938 (350+mph) and 1947 (394mph). It is now on display at ThinkTank, Birmingham Science Museum, England.

John Cobb (1899-1952) was a British businessman who won his first track race in 1924, the same year he received his pilot certificate. He raced throughout the 1920s and 1930s, pausing for Royal Air Force service in WWII 1943-1945. He then pursued land and sea speed records, including the one portrayed in this post card in 1947 that stood until it was broken by Craig Breedlove in 1963. Cobb was killed in 1952 with the crash of his jet-powered boat, Crusader, at Loch Ness in Scotland.
