This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 6 x 5 inches (155x130mm).

It shows an elderly man with a white beard and a woman seated on the grass outside a long, single-storey stone building in a rural setting. The photograph is presented on a dark grey card mount with a debossed border. The reverse has a handwritten inscription in ink. The top portion gives a sender\'s address: \"From A. Humphrey, 28 Hamercliff Road, Blacko, Longsight, Manchester.\" The main inscription reads: \"Friends\' Meeting House at Eaglesfield, in which John Dalton kept school at the age of twelve.\"

This identifies the building as the historic Quaker Friends\' Meeting House in Eaglesfield, Cumbria, the birthplace of the renowned scientist John Dalton (1766-1844). Dalton, a Quaker, is celebrated for his pioneering work on atomic theory and his research into colour blindness.
