KoshidaKyoto refers to a prominent antique and vintage maker of Japanese porcelain, active from the late Meiji era (late 1800s) through themid-20th century. Renowned for hand-painted details and gold gilding,Koshida pieces are, to this day, highly collectible.
Eachof the four (4) teacups included in this set features a \'Geisha\'lithophane
(atranslucent porcelain image embedded in the base of the cup)
Ifyou look directly down into each teacup you will see a translucentraised design that looks like the outline of a woman, HOWEVER, if youhold the teacup up to a light source, this raised design istransformed into a highly detailed grayscale image of a \'beautiful \'Geisha\'. It is quite astunning transformation.
Theteacups themselves are an extremely \'fine\' porcelain. Noneof the teacups included in this set are stained which can happen tofine porcelain if a tea set like this one is used often.
Youwill also notice that every single Koshida Kyoto piece in this tea set hasthe exact same pattern/design # 567.
