George VI and Elizabeth the Queen Mother Signed Coronation Era Family Photograph - Including a Young Queen Elizabeth II!
King and Queen of the United Kingdom, GEORGE VI and ELIZABETH The Queen Mother authentic early autographed family photo, signed as George RI and Elizabeth R, and dated "1937". George's "RI" designation stood for the Latin "Rex Imperatore", or Emperor King and Elizabeth's "R" Latin for "Regina", or Queen. The photo depicts the King and Queen with their two daughters – future Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, Princess Margaret. The photograph is also signed by photographer Marcus Adams.
The December 15, 1936 Marcus Adams photograph of the royal family was taken just four days after the Duke of York had ascended the throne, following the shocking abdication crisis of his brother, King Edward VIII. The handwritten 1937 designation might seem to suggest that this piece may have been signed or gifted around the time of their coronation in May 1937. George and Elizabeth The Queen Mother ruled the United Kingdom from 1936 until George's death in 1952.
