Impressive Olmec-style carved serpentine stone mask, attributed to the ancient Mesoamerican artistic tradition of ca. 1200–400 BC.
This substantial stone mask features a powerful and expressive human face with distinctive characteristics associated with Olmec sculptural traditions.
The face displays deeply recessed, elongated eyes with openwork detailing, a broad nose with pronounced nostrils, full lips, and a rounded facial structure. The carefully modeled features create a striking expression that gives the mask a commanding sculptural presence.
Carved from greenish-gray stone identified as serpentine, the mask exhibits natural-looking variations in coloration, mineral patterning, and surface texture.
Small perforations along the lateral edges suggest that the mask may have been designed for suspension or attachment, although its original function has not been established.
The reverse has a relatively flat, roughly textured surface, contrasting with the smoothly modeled facial features on the front.
Measuring approximately 7 inches tall and 6 inches wide, this impressive mask makes a striking display piece for collectors of Olmec-style sculpture and Mesoamerican 7 in. H x 6 in. W x 1 in. D.
